NOVEMBER 18-24 IS LUNG CANCER AWARENESS WEEK!

SHOULD MOVIES WITH SMOKING GET "R" RATINGS?
The World Health Organization, American Medical Association and other organizations think so.
A coalition of public health groups has condemned "Hollywood's glamorization of smoking" and demanded that the industry take steps to discourage the practice including: "R" ratings on movies where smoking occurs unless the film clearly shows the dangers of smoking; no more cigarette brand names, even in background shots; strong anti-smoking ads before a movie with smoking is shown; and finally, credits in any movie with smoking certifying that nobody on the production accepted anything of value from any tobacco company, its agents or fronts.

STAR POWER AGAINST TOBACCO

Actress S. Epatha Merkerson plays Lt. Anita Van Buren on the TV show "law and Order." She lost two close friends to lung cancer and that's why she's lending her talents to a series of anti-smoking public service announcements. She joins recording artist Richard Marx and fashion model Christy Turlington, a former smoker, in publicizing the dangers of tobacco with the "It's Time To Focus on Lung Cancer" national campaign.
