NOVEMBER IS LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
The Global Lung Cancer Coalition say it is time
to put lung cancer on the health agenda and this month marks the first Global
Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign. Lung cancer can affect anyone - including people
who have never smoked. In 2000, this devastating disease claimed the lives of
over one million men and women world-wide - more than breast, prostate and
colorectal cancer put together. And yet, in terms of public awareness, lung
cancer is like an invisible disease. For information on local and state events
see Association of Lung Cancer Advocacy Support and Education, ALCASE, at

NATIONAL BATTLE PLAN TO END CANCER IN OUR
LIFETIME
The National Cancer Legislation Advisory
Committee (NCLAC) was created in 2000 to establish priorities for federal cancer
legislation. The Committee brought together scientists and survivors, patient
advocates and health providers, non-profit leaders and biotechnology executives.
They sought creative, common sense ideas to make dramatic progress in the cancer
war. Their recommendations provide a roadmap "to a goal that is now within
reach: eradicating cancer as a major health problem in our lifetime." Their
website summarizes cancer legislation since 1937. http://www.cancersource.com/nclac/

ASCO's SITE HELPS FIND ONCOLOGISTS
The American Society of Clinical Oncology has
added a member search engine to its website. Patients and family who are looking
for an oncologist who is a member of ASCO can search by location or specialty.
